Latest Gadgets 2011

Electronic gadgets are available in abundance in the marketplace. Each yr we have particular new inventions, new gadgets formulated and introduced. This 12 months, the International Customer Electronics Display started from January 6 to January nine in Las Vegas offers us glimpses of the most recent tech gizmos of many well-known firms, these as Samsung, Asus, Apple, Sony… Below are some of the best devices coming out.

one. Tablet Frenzy.

Thank you to the success of the iPad, tablets will be the highest-promoting client electronic devices of the 12 months, Scarsella mentioned, with 40 to 80 new versions currently being launched at CES. “Apple has had so a lot accomplishment with the authentic iPad, and consumers want electronics,” he said.

The new Apple iPad two is expected to be introduced among the stop of February and early April, and should have two cameras, an SD card slot, HDMI, and will be smaller, he stated. Samsung’s Galaxy tablet is the only early opposition for the iPad, but other individuals these as Motorola, Asus, Blackberry, HP, HTC, Dell and LG are coming and a lot of will supply new functions such as higher resolution displays, USB ports and carrier subsidies. These phones came out in 2010, but far more versions are coming out, particularly if revenue of current versions are great, Scarsella said. Success will rely on size and good quality of applications in their new app market and new hardware across carriers in the U.S., he mentioned.

four. Web Tv/Streaming Press.

Both by way of Television or set top rated box the World wide web is coming back to the dwelling area, in accordance to Scarsella. TVs will have fully-integrated apps, features, and Net. “Pretty much TVs are going to have all of the capabilities of a smartphone, but on your wall,” he stated. Anticipate new set-best boxes with Google Tv, and other boxes with Android to strike the marketplace in 2011.

Bear in mind the tech gizmos 3-D Television? It was a very hot topic at CES final calendar year, but spending far more than $ 100 for a pair of clunky glasses didn’t truly catch on. Suppliers obtained the concept and this yr are coming out with glasses-cost-free three-D TVs and personal computer monitors, Scarsella mentioned.

five. Android Phones.

This will be the largest shaker for 2011, Scarsella mentioned, with the new twin-core operated phones and Android 3. Gingerbread for tablets. Such phones are creating moveable gaming systems this sort of as the Sony PSP obsolete.

six. Cloud Gaming.

Even though smartphones make gaming affordable — a number of dollars as a substitute of $ 30 for a game — the new pattern of cloud gaming is finding up rapidly amongst players, Scarsella explained. I think due to the law of conservation of magic, it would have to be the input, if it’s the output :)

I have one of these. works pretty well, though for my trip to Europe in may, it was really much easier to get a macbook… :P

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Ah, I see what you mean about the magic.

It does take a little while to transfer over, but do you reckon i’m going to get enough money for a Macbook in the next two weeks before my trip to france? :P £19 or £1000-odd, hmm tough choice! :P

  • mikefranklin says:

with the d70 (s l o w USB), it was deadly, and it wasn’t clear if for a 2GB card both the camera and the ipod would survive!

just for kicks you might try transferring the size of your card (or 1gb) with a fully charged camera battey & charged ipod… just to see what the result is.

and despite the amazingly long life of the nikon battery, i’ve found a spare has been helpful sometimes (I shoot quite a bit, however).

is it really £1000? I think I paid $1400/ £750, though with taxes it would probably be more…

anyway, I think you made the right choice, given the financial considerations :)

where in France are you going?

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Well, I performed the test you described and the results weren’t exactly fantastic, actually they were horrendously slow. I filled my 2Gb of card with photos (Around 500 Large JPEGS at 6MP) and copied ‘em over; it took roughly 45 minutes before I had almost no power left in the ipod (camera was fine) and had to stop & save so I didn’t lose all the photos. Managed to get around 400 of the 500 over. Which I suppose isn’t too bad considering that means i’ll be able to take over 1000 shots compared to 500. Pity i’ll have to sit there for almost an hour to copy the photos over, but the £700-odd difference between this and a macbook is too great for that to matter :D

At the moment I haven’t seen a need for a second spare battery as the original seems to last for most shoots in my case (although i’ll bring the charger with me).

And yeah, I was thinking of the higher end 80Gb Superdrive version which is in fact £1000. However, you’re correct, one model is £750; which is the model i’d go for :D heh

As for France, unfortunately I can’t give you the exact location..well..because I don’t know :$ But it’s in the south, and we’re spending a couple of days in Paris as well. I’ll find out and tell you a little later :) and expect many, many photos :P

  • mikefranklin says:

I’m always amazed when someone does what I suggest :)

for convenience, I’d probably download each day’s to the ipod — that’ll be relatively quick (I shoot a lot, and I shot about 300 a day) and then you won’t have to worry about doing a bunch at a time.

I got the middle macbook – 2.0Ghz/512Kb/60gb/superdrive… then upgraded the memory later (apple was $400 for 2GB, I got it for $300, though I saw a place online for $220); I’ve been at 30 GB free since early may… I keep my photos on an external hard drive (soon to be a network drive), where my music is as well… so those don’t eat up space.

I may get a 250gb or 300gb drive when they’re available… as one can never have too much space :)

France is cool; I’ve been maybe a dozen or so times (check my sets :) )

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Haha, well it was a good suggestion :D

Yeah, i’ll most likely back things up at the end of each day, as sitting at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower for almost an hour waiting for my iPod to run out of power is not something I plan to do! :P

Nice choice on the Macbook; it’s a pity memory costs so much for macs though, 2Gb on PC is around is around £100-120, but then again I suppose that’s around 200 USD.

You most certainly can’t have enough space; have you considered getting a 1 Terabyte hard disk? Or even a 1 petabyte? :O :P

I hope I get service as good as this in France, heh :D

  • mikefranklin says:

thanks :) I have to deal with a lot of people who like talking-without-knowing, so the practical test is a good way to actually "know" :)

it’s not so much a mac/pc difference as it is a laptop/desktop difference, I think…. something about the small form factor.

this month or next month I’m getting an Infrant X6 network RAID with 4 drive bays… so up to 2TB of storage, though I’ll probably start out with just a 1 TB or so :)

so.. the drive space on the macbook is somewhat less important as it’s not the primary (or final) resting place of my stuff.

and good luck finding a hotel which provides the same level of service :)

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Yeah, I suppose manufacturing 2Gb into SODIMM chips rather than the larger DIMM chips is more expensive.

Haha, *only* 1 Tb? :D Looks good, 600 isn’t too bad for up to 2Tb :)

Unfortunately no iPillows for me, we’re staying in our own house :( :P

  • mikefranklin says:

no, I said "just" not "only" 1TB :)

though just to be annoying, maybe I will stock it with 4 500GB drives :)

your own house in France? well, I might just prefer that over a macbook, but it’s easier to play with the macbook than it would be to journey to visit la maison. It must be rough, having a house in France :) do you rent it out when you’re not there on holiday?

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Heh, just a minor technicality :P

Well, I don’t pay for the house, and convincing my parents to buy a macbook was pretty much futile, unfortunately.
It is rough, actually, having our own house; kidding, of course :P . Technically, my parents don’t own the house, but some friend’s of my mom’s do.
Time to crack out le livre d’expressions (at least, I think that’s what phrase book is in French, hmm).

  • mikefranklin says:

    No I didn’t mean yours personally ;)

and I think Nathan has been the most successful at getting the parents to buy a macbook. I would guess that if I were to have asked mine, the answer would have been No as well, but for different reasons :)

bonne chance avec les expressions françaises, et les français eux-mêmes . france is great :)

  • Adam Mulligan says:

Heh, well I think Nathan’s been quite successful with getting his parents to buy a lot of things; A Sony Wega TV, an iMac, a macbook pro and so forth :D (Bearing in mind of course, he may have bought those himself, although it’s unlikely :P )

Oui, France is great, pity I can’t speak the language especially well; Might have to take further lessons one day :) .

  • mikefranklin says:

my french is tolerably reasonable – I can converse, normally.

but what irritates me to no end is when at the end of a conversation, the french person switched to heavily accented english and says, "you speak french well… for an american."

apparently there are lower standards for us :)

I think Nathan covets working for an apple store more for the cachet, than for the cash :)

  • Adam Mulligan says:

I can *just* about have a small conversation, mainly involving quite arbitrary phrases i’ve learned :D Although, bearing in mind of course, i’ve never divulged in a "full-blown" conversation, as such.

Heh, I think the French just have lower standards for everyone :P Well, those who don’t speak French with perfection.
